Over the weekend, God provided in ways I can hardly believe. In just three days, we raised over $17,000 of the $27,000 needed for Anita’s treatment. That’s nothing short of miraculous. It means we’re able to secure her place at Valiant and she moves in tomorrow. An unfortunate surprise came when I was told the final cost for a 30-day stay came to $15,255 (not $13,000) after taxes and special dietary needs for her celiac condition. But even that was covered because God and His people are very kind.

I gave a live update on stream:

Why This Matters

This stay will give Anita what hospital settings have never been able to provide:

  • No phones, no late-night interruptions, no revolving doors of patients.
  • Just consistent, purposeful, dedicated care.
  • A chance to heal with focus and dignity.

And for me, it brings something I haven’t had in years: rest. Knowing Anita is safe and cared for by specialists who can dedicate their time to her recovery lifts an enormous weight off my shoulders and gives our family space to breathe.

Behind the Scenes

What you might not know is how fast and intense this process has been. The fundraiser went live at the end of last week. Within three days, we had enough to secure the initial 30 days, but because of how the donation platform works, the funds were locked for five days. That meant I had to come up with a $3,000 deposit out of my own savings. By God’s grace, and through some direct gifts sent to me outside the platform, we were able to make it happen.

The staff at Valiant were flexible and supportive, working with us so Anita could begin right away instead of waiting.

The Next Big Ask

Anita’s doctors recommend 60 days for her best chance at real healing and we’re continuing to raise funds toward the full $27,000 goal so she can stay the additional time. I’m sure there will be some surprise taxes and whatnot on this one too, so please pray we can raise $30,000. With how amazing the last few days have been, I believe God will finish what He started.

On a personal note, this comes in the middle of a very heavy season. In the past month, life at home hit a breaking point. At the same time, opportunities to serve have multiplied: I’ve been invited to speak at four conferences between now and November, including keynoting one of them, while also pursuing grant applications so TACO can serve creators sustainably without “nickel and diming” them. The timing of our major crisis is no coincidence. The enemy hates what we’re doing and brought the big guns out the moment the opportunities started and I committed to buckle down.

And yet, God has provided.

Thank You

I can’t say it enough: thank you! You’ve carried Anita and our family to this point, and it is a HUGE step. Please continue to:

  • Pray — for Anita’s healing, her doctors’ wisdom, and for our family as we adjust.
  • Give — every gift, large or small, moves us closer to 60 days of care.
  • Share — spreading Anita’s story is one of the best ways to keep the momentum going.

  1. […] allowed part of her story, my friend got to work. (I recently wrote a post from my perspective, and an update.) I didn’t have much in the tank to help. If I was raising money for someone else, I’d blast it […]
