For those who haven’t been following along, Anita entered a residential treatment program a little over a month ago to work through some serious mental health challenges. It’s been 37 days as of today, and she’s really been getting a lot out of the program—especially the individual counselling.

I’m going to keep this update brief and to the point, but I’ve written more of the story previously. Check out the Blog Archive to read them.

Thankful Thanksgiving

We were able to spend Thanksgiving together this past weekend, and it went exceptionally well. We picked her up early, spent the day together, and even tried lamb with mint sauce for the first time. I baked her a gluten-free pumpkin pie, and we wrapped up the evening playing a game before taking her back to the facility. There was definitely a feeling of holding our breath—waiting to see if things would turn—but the day stayed peaceful and kind. We were emotionally tired afterward, likely from holding our proverbial breath for a day. The whole experience gave us a real sense of hope that things can get better.

How It’s Going

Anita has been writing long notes to the kids and me—sharing apologies, reflections, and what she’s learning. We’ve also been invited to weekly chats with her and the counsellor, which have been very helpful. The counsellor has even called me personally a few times to check in, which I’ve really appreciated.

She’s allowed three phone calls each week, and she uses them to talk with the kids. I’m usually nearby, so I get to join in sometimes, but I’m glad they also have that private time with her. As a family, we’re cautiously optimistic. The program seems to be helping her in real ways, and Thanksgiving was a glimpse of what healing might look like.

If all goes as planned, she’ll come home on November 9th—the same day I return from ReachConf—so that should be quite the day.

About Me & The Next Phase

I’ll be sharing more soon about my own side of this journey, including how God’s been quietly kind to me even through spiritual dryness. For now, I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s given, prayed, and shared. Your support has been incredibly encouraging.

I’m excited about the next season of ministry because Anita’s gifts compliment mine really well and she’s considered helping out behind the scenes! We’ll take it slow, of course, but it’s still exciting.

We’re still in need of more long-term monthly donors to help us continue to serve as digital missionaries, so if you’ve been wondering how to help, the best way is through a monthly donation. Those ongoing gifts keep our ministry and family steady.
